Skincare is Self Care. Period.

Activities like meditation, deep breathing and exercising can help you relieve stress and calm down after a long day. But what about moisturizing your body?

Many people refer to the search for perfect skin as a "scam" and "a waste of money." But, with a skincare industry worth 134.5 billion dollars in 2018 and growing to over 180 billion by 2024, one tends to pause and wonder what all the hype is about? What most skeptics fail to realize is that underneath the makeup, pretty dresses, and tight workout gear- is just a girl (or guy) who enjoys looking good and feeling good in his/her natural state. And applying lotions, creams, body oils and etc. can help you achieve that. Any act of care towards ones own body is self care.

That can be moisturizing your body after a long soak in the tub, or even applying oil and gently massaging your fingers over every pore and crease on your face or behind your neck. This is an important step to possibly improving your mental health, according to Marie Jihn, a dermatologist at Premier Dermatology in San Carlos, California. It doesn’t matter if it’s taking a few minutes to put on a face mask or adding a dollop of moisturizer to your cheeks.

“By having a set routine, one knows what to expect, and this is a relief,” she said. “The more a routine it becomes, the less stress it becomes. In the process, you also look better.”
